Four terrorists were killed after a joint team of the state police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) foiled a fidayeen attack on a CRPF camp in the Sumbal area of Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday morning.
Exchange of fire between the security forces and the terrorists started around 4 am on Monday near the CRPF's 45 Battalion in Sumbal. Terrorists reportedly opened fire at the camp from the open fields located nearby.
"Four militants have been killed in retaliatory fire by 45 Battalion of the CRPF and the Police at Sumbal Bandipore as they attempted to carry out a suicidal attack on a CRPF camp," a Srinagar-based police spokesman was quoted by the Hindu as saying. He added that a "search operation is underway" to flush out the remaining terrorists, if any.
The identity of the terrorists is not yet known.
DGP SP Vaid said that four AK-47 rifles, one Underbarrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL) and other ammunition was recovered from the deceased terrorists.
