Indian Army personnel on Saturday, May 27, managed to foil an infiltration bid in the Rampur sector of the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, killing four terrorists in the process. Two more were killed after the security forces launched a search operation in the area.
Meanwhile, reports are emerging that Sabzar Bhatt, the "successor" of slain Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani, has been killed in an ongoing terrorist encounter in the Saimu Tral sector of the Pulwama district of J&K. Indian Army sources told news agency ANI that at least two-three terrorists were holed up there, and were exchanging fire with the security forces.
Bhatt and one other terrorist has since been killed, while a third is continuing to return fire, according to an Indian Army statement.
The incidents come just a day after the Army neutralised two terrorists from the Border Action Team (BAT) of the Pakistan Army along the Line of Control (LoC). The terrorists were trying to infiltrate into India through the Uri sector in the Baramulla district of J&K when they were killed.
Indian Army has already warned that with snow melting due to summer and hilly passes opening up, infiltration bids along the LoC are bound to increase from the Pakistani side.
It may be noted that there has been an increase in border tensions between India and Pakistan. While India has put its Air Force on the ready, Pakistan has also alerted its forward operating bases along the LoC. And this is not counting the continued ceasefire violations along the border by Pakistan, which has resulted in thousands having to leave their homes in villages along the LoC and go to live in refugee camps.
