Four soldiers belonging to 3 Ladakh Scouts were killed in a avalanche in Jammu & Kashmir's Ladakh region, according to the Ministry of Defence.
Though a rescue operation was launched immediately after the avanlanche, the four jawans could not be rescued. Some of the soldiers injured in the avalanche were reportedly under treatment.
The deceased have been identified as Havaldar Tsewang Nurbu, Havaldar Dorjay Gyaltsan, Rifleman Mohammad Yousuf and Rifleman Jigmaid Chosdup.
"Four jawans of 3 Ladakh Scouts were killed when their patrol party was hit by a snow avalanche at the Southern Glacier in Ladkah at 4:30 pm on Sunday," PTI quoted Udhampur-based Defence spokesman Colonel SD Goswami as saying.
The rescue team had retrieved the jawans' bodies, which have been sent to a hospital in Hundar for post-mortem examination.
In November last year, Captain Ashwini Kumar of Ladakh Scouts was also killed in an avalanche in Siachen Glacier.
