At least three security personnel, including two Army men and one policeman, were killed when militants attacked an army convoy in Baramulla district's Khawaja Bagh area in Kashmir early Wednesday morning.
Four other soldiers were also injured in the attack, which took place at around 3:30 a.m. The injured have been admitted to a local hospital.
"There was an ambush on the army convoy at early morning. We have lost two soldiers and one J&K police personnel. There are some injuries as well but those details are not available as yet", an army spokesman was quoted by DNA as saying.
The police have cordoned off the area and also launched a massive hunt to locate the militants, according to local media reports. The Army and the police are also searching the mountainous areas in Kashmir to trace the attackers.
This is the third attack by militants in the last 36 hours.
On Tuesday, around five policemen were wounded after unidentified men launched a grenade attack at the Kakapora Police Station around 8:30 p.m. The incident took place in the Kakapora area of the Pulwama district in south Kashmir.
Two militants and a Commandant of CRPF 49 battalion Pramod Kumar were killed and eight other jawans injured when militants attacked security forces in an attempt to infiltrate the area of Nowhatta located in downtown Srinagar on Monday.
Five militants were also shot dead by the Indian Army after an infiltration bid along the Line of Control in Uri sector was foiled on Monday. Two army men were also injured.
