James Cameron's epic space science fiction film Avatar 2 is one of the most anticipated movies of our times. The 2009 Avatar movie went on to become one of the greatest films and fans are hoping that the upcoming Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 will follow the same trend. However, the franchise's main antagonist, Colonel Miles Quaritch is set for some complicated time in the upcoming Avatar movie sequels.
The ruthless Colonel Miles Quaritch was portrayed by Stephen Lang in James Cameron's 2009 release Avatar. Lang recently discussed his character in forthcoming Avatar sequels with SlashFilm and stated that as per him, his character, Colonel Miles Quaritch, is in for some complications.
While talking about the Avatar sequels and his character, Stephen Lang had this to say:
"I can tell you that we're deeply, deeply into the shooting. We're by no means finished. Quaritch, his place in this particular universe has gotten more complicated. And that's kind of the extent of his involvement in the world. The world begins to – the world of Pandora – begins to affect him quite deeply in ways that he either refused or it did not affect him. And it gets under his skin."
In Avatar movie, during the climax sequence, Quaritch wore an AMP suit while they were fighting at the Pandora. He somehow escapes from his own aircraft and breaks open the avatar link that connected Jake Sully's human body. When he tries to slit the throat of Jake's avatar, Jake's love interest from the film, Neytiri, kills him.
After the Avatar movie, fans expected to see some different or new antagonist in Avatar 2 but James Cameron had set the records straight.
In an earlier interview with Empire Magazine, James Cameron talked about the return of Colonel Miles Quaritch in all four Avatar movies.
"I'm taking characters you know and putting them in unfamiliar places and moving them on this greater journey. But it's not a whole bunch of new characters every time. There's not a new villain every time, which is interesting. Same guy. Same mother****r through all four movies. He is so good and he just gets better. I know Stephen Lang is gonna knock this out of the park," Cameron said in the past.
As of now, there is no confirmed release date of Avatar 2 but fans are hoping to see the movie somewhere in 2020.
