Known for producing silver screen blockbusters, Akshay Kumar has now set foot into the television industry. Having churned hit films such as "Singh is King" and "OMG – Oh My God", Kumar's Hari Om Productions is reportedly producing its first TV show "Jamai Raja."
The daily soap, which according to reports, is about a son-in-law who sets out to fix the estranged relationship between his wife and mother-in-law, and will go on air on Zee Television next month.
"Viewers are used to seeing a daughter-in-law playing the 'fixer' as she is expected to adjust to new surroundings after marriage. Our new show 'Jamai Raja' breaks this stereotype where the husband attempts to repair the estranged relationship between his newly-married wife and his mother-in-law," The Press Trust of India quoted Namit Sharma, Programming Head of Zee TV, reported MSN.
Grazing Goat Pictures, owned by Kumar and Ashvini Yardi, will also co-produce the serial. Popular TV artists like Ravi Dubey, Shruti Ulfat, Delnaz Paul, Apara Mehta and Achint Kaur will also be a part of it, PTI added.
The first promo of the soap appears promising with the male lead, Ravi Dubey, assuring a troubled housewife at the vegetable vendor's shop that sons-in-law are responsible for taking care of both the wife and her 'maika' as well. While "Jamai Raja" is treading on uncharted territory with a off-the-chart theme, only time will tell whether or not it will click with the audience.
Kumar, whose first TV production is likely to go on air in August, will be seen next in "Entertainment" movie. Releasing on 8 August, this slapstick comedy, is directed by debutant duo Sajid-Farhad. The film also stars Tamannaah Bhatia, Mithun Chakraborty and Johnny Lever in pivotal roles.
Kumar has a history of hosting reality TV shows such as "Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi" (Season 1, 2 & 4) and "MasterChef India" (Season 1).
