Kerala MLA PC George sparked massive controversy after he called the nun who accused the Jalandhar Bishop of raping her, a "prostitute."
George, an independent MLA from Poonjar said, "What do you call a nun who has sexual relations with someone over a two-year period?" He made these comments at a press conference convened in Kottayam. He further went on to question her character.
"I am not saying that the Bishop hasn't done any wrong, but when you weigh his character against that of this nun, it is evident she is not above reproach. She says she was abused 13 times. How is it possible that she didn't have any complaint 12 times and it only became rape the 13th time? A nun is supposed to be a virgin. Like the mother of Jesus. If a nun loses her virginity, she cannot be treated as a nun", News18 reported.
George said that he initially thought that the Bishop Franco Mulackal was at fault but after closely examining the case, he figured out that the nun was a 'troublemaker'.
Many nuns protested against the Bishop outside the Kochi High Court on Saturday when they realised that neither the church nor the government would support them.
After the comments, the nun who was supposed to address the media on Sunday cancelled her meetings and locked herself in her room.
The nun who filed a case against the Bishop Franco Mulackal said that she was sexually abused and raped by the bishop for two years between 2014 and 2016.
She filed a complaint a few months back and reports say that the bishop still walks free and no attempts have been made to arrest him. The same MLA revealed the name of the Malayali actress who was sexually abused and abducted a year back.
