Sunil's "Jakkanna," which was released with "Pelli Choopulu" on July 29, opened to a decent response on Friday and has made a good collection at the worldwide box office in the first weekend.
Comedy actor Sunil made his debut as a hero in 2010 with SS Rajamouli's film "Maryada Ramanna," which was a big hit at the box office. But his recent releases — "Tadakha," "Bhimavaram Bullodu" and "Krishnashtami" — have failed to live up to the expectations of the makers and viewers alike at the box office. Hence, the actor, who was desperately looking for success, had heavily promoted his latest outing, "Jakkanna."
As predicted by trade experts, the movie witnessed decent occupancy in theatres across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana (AP/T) on Friday. The film collected Rs. 4.85 crore gross at the AP/T box office on the first day and earned Rs. 3.30 crore for its distributors. It became the biggest opener in Sunil's career after "Maryada Ramanna."
The Vamsi Krishna Akella-directed masala entertainer received mixed response from the audience. Trade experts predict that the word-of-mouth reviews might affect its business on the following days. "Jakkanna" collected Rs. 10.25 crore at the AP/T box office in the first weekend and Rs. 6.81 crore for the distributors of these states.
"Jakkanna" also had a good opening in Karnataka and other parts of the world. The film collected approximately Rs. 1 crore gross in other areas. But it showed steep decline in business on the following days. The movie has collected approximately Rs. 2 crore gross in areas other than the Telugu-speaking states in the first weekend. It has earned Rs. 82 lakh to the distributors of those regions.
"Jakkanna" has collected a total of Rs 12.25 crore gross at the worldwide box office in the first weekend. The movie has earned Rs. 7.63 crore for its global distributors in three days. Industry trackers say the movie had a good start and did a decent business at the box office over the weekend.
