Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is the latest to join the carmakers in India to pass on the benefits of Goods and Service Tax (GST) to its customers with immediate effect. It is raining discounts in India on SUVS and luxury vehicles as the new tax regime proposes to bring down the vehicle taxes by up to 12 percent.
The prices of Jaguar Land Rover's select models in India will go down in the range of Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 10.9 lakh. While the Jaguar XE will see a price cut of Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 5.7 lakh, the Jaguar XJ prices will be dropped by up to Rs. 10.9 lakh. The price cut for the Land Rover models-- Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque will be approximately Rs. 3.3 lakh and Rs. 7.5 lakh respectively.

Luxury carmakers like Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz have also announced price discounts on its models in India. Audi slashed its prices by up to Rs. 10 lakh while Mercedes-Benz's made-in-India models-- CLA, GLA, C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, GLC, GLE, GLS and Mercedes-Maybach—received a discount of up to Rs. 7 lakh. The US auto Major Ford was also one of the first carmakers to pass on the GST benefits to its customers.
With the new GST norms, the cars attract a tax rate of 28 percent. In addition to this, there is 15 percent of maximum cess on the SUVs and luxury cars, taking it to a total of 43 percent.
