Looks like Tata Motors is all set to roll out its hatchback offering Bolt in India soon. The company has officially opened booking for its hatchback Bolt in the country online with an advance payment of ₹11,000.
Bolt, the next big ticket from Tata's stable after Zest sedan, is expected to make its India debut in early 2015. For Indian auto enthusiast, Tata Bolt is nothing new. We got the first glimpse of it at the Delhi Auto Expo earlier this year, and since then the car has made innumerable appearances on the web through spy shots and leaked reports. Lately, Tata has also introduced a Bolt exclusive website.
For those forgetting, Bolt will be available in both petrol and diesel engine options. Under the hood, the petrol variant of the car packs 1.2-litre Revotron turbo-charged engine, which is tuned to generate 84bhp at 5,000rpm and a torque of 140Nm of 1,750-3,500rpm.
The diesel model gets 1.3-litre Quadrajet diesel motor that can generate 73bhp and peak torque of 190Nm. For Tata, the sporty design of Bolt derived from the convergence of minds at three of Tata Motor's renowned design studios -- Pune in India, Coventry in the United Kingdom and Turin in Italy.
In terms of dimensions, Tata Bolt measures 3,825mm in length, 1,695mm in width and 1,562mm in height. The car offers a ground clearance of 165mm and comes seated on a wheelbase of 2,470mm. As for features, the safety of Tata Bolt is enhanced with the 9th generation ABS by Bosch and Corner Stability Control (CSC) and there is also MapmyIndia GPS navigation, which is specially coded for integration between the phone and in-dash screen.
When launched, Tata Bolt will be pitched against Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai i10, i20, Honda Jazz and Chevrolet Beat in the domestic market. With the launch of Bolt, Tata is hoping to rewrite the success of Tata Zest and the hatchback is likely to get a price tag of ₹6.5 lakh.
