Hyundai India has finally confirmed the news that the company will launch the i20 based crossover Elite i20 Cross in the country in early 2015. However, the company refrained from announcing the expected launch date and pricing of the upcoming Elite i20 Cross.
The South Korean brand revealed its plans to launch new Elite i20 Cross in India while speaking to The Hindu Business Line and Hyundai also said that the launch of new Crossover will be followed by an all-new compact SUV ix25.
Elite i20 Cross, a car based on Hyundai's newly launched Elite i20 was caught on camera numerous times in the country. In terms of styling, the car will definitely share a lot of similarities with its smaller sibling Elite i20 and is also expected to get the same engines.
The current Elite i20 packs 1.2 litre petrol engine and 1.4 litre CRDi diesel motor. While the petrol engine of churns out 83 PS of power and peak torque of 114 Nm, the diesel motor is tuned to generate 90 PS of power and peak torque of 220 Nm.
The exterior body structure of the new i20 Cross is likely to be altered to fit into the dynamics of a crossover. The previous spy shots of the new Elite i20 have indicated features like aluminium roof rails, new body cladding and different alloy wheels. Though full details on the pricing and specifications are yet to be announced, according to the rumour mills the company will price its new Crossover entrant in the ₹8 lakh bracket.
The i20 Cross will take on the likes of Toyota Etios Cross, Fiat Avventura and Volkswagen Polo Cross in India when launched.
