Shortly after teasing the new Polo hatchback this week, German carmaker Volkswagen has confirmed that the sixth-generation hatchback will make its world debut on June 16 at an event in Berlin.

The new Polo hatchback, which has been spied in its fully camouflaged and revealed forms, is based on the company's lighter MQB platform and is longer and wider than the outgoing model. In its new avatar, the Polo is believed to have gone for a thorough makeover, although the overall look of the model still stays close to that of the predecessor.

From the images of the new Polo we have seen so far, the hatchback is expected to flaunt a new bumper along with restyled front grille, and fog lamps. The headlamps of the Polo also seem to have been revised and are likely to come with LED. Changes are also likely to be seen at the rear of the Polo. In the new generation model, the hatchback is expected to get redesigned rear bumper with new taillamps. The cabin of the Polo is now expected to be bigger and roomier, with a slew of features onboard, such as new touchscreen infotainment systems with smartphone, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

As far as the engine is concerned, in the international market, the new Polo is likely to come with an array of options under the hood, which will include 1-litre TSI unit, 1.5-litre TSI and 1.5 litre diesel units. A 1.6-litre TDI four-cylinder diesel engine option is also rumoured. In India, the Polo is likely to continue with the same engine options as the current model. The top-spec GTI model has been rumoured to come with a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine that churns out 198bhp.
