Update: The threat has been lifted.
A possible bomb situation is developing in Genoa, which is the capital of Liguria and the sixth largest city in Italy.
According to Sky TG24, the bomb squad is on the scene.
Genoa is one of Europe's largest cities on the Mediterranean Sea and the largest seaport in Italy.
Italy on alert
Italy has been on alert, after the FBI issued a warning that five possible terror suspects were planning an attack. Soon after this the country launched a manhunt in Rome and Milan.
Amid the terror fears, the country also has seen hit by a wave of hoax bomb calls and social rumours of an imminent attack.
The bomb threats in recent days also caused a series of service interruptions and station evacuations, affecting the underground train services in Rome and Milan, AFP had reported.
Following this, Prime Minister Matteo Renzi on 20 November warned that "terrorism scaremongers" would be prosecuted.
