Mumbai, September 13 (ANI): Mumbai painted itself in festive colour as celebrations for popular Hindu festival Ganesh Chaturthi dedicated to elephant headed God Ganesha began on Monday. People travelled in the trains with the idols of God Ganesha as they carried it to their home on the occasion of "Ganesh Chaturthi" which is celebrated with pomp and show in western and southern India. Devotees are very glad after long wait of one year the elephant headed God Ganesha has arrived again to help them overcome their sorrow and people welcome their lord by preparing different types of sweets and decorate their homes as well. During Ganesha Chaturthi, also known as Vinayak Chaturthi, thousands of people visit the community Puja pandals set up on the occasion across India and especially in western Maharashtra state. On the culmination of the 10-day long Ganesha festival, the idols would be taken out in grand processions and immersed in water bodies. In an endeavor to protect the environment, artists made eco-friendly idols as they sued less of thermocol in the decoration. Traditionally, idols were made from mud and clay and vegetable-based dyes were used to paint them.
