Isuzu Motor India launched the new flagship SUV MU-X, which replaces the current flagship MU-7 SUV that was launched in 2012. The MU-X is offered in both 4x2 and 4x4 versions and it has been priced at Rs 24 lakh and Rs 26 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi.
The MU-X is miles ahead in terms of design over the model it replaces. The face of the SUV features a twin-slat grill in chrome in line with the company's D-Max V-Cross pick-up. The new grille and projector headlamp cluster form a V-shaped front facia to the MU-X. The side profile and rear profile, especially the wrap-around rear windshield, resemble that of the Chevrolet Trailblazer. The SUV comes with 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, and a generous amount of chrome is visible in places like door handles as well as tailgate.

The MU-X measures 4,825mm length, 1,860mm in width, 1,840mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,845mm. The new SUV also boasts of a massive 230mm ground clearance.
The interior is a dual-tone affair in shades of Ivory and Grey. The SUV is loaded with features such as a seven-inch infotainment system compatible with leading smartphone operating systems and 10-inch roof-mounted DVD screen surround sound system. The SUV also packs cruise control, keyless entry, reverse camera, climate control and AC vents for all three rows.
The MU-X is powered by a 3.0-litre, four-cylinder, VGS turbo diesel engine that can churn out 174bhp of power at 3,600rpm and 380Nm of torque at 1,800-2,800rpm. The transmission duties in the SUV are taken care by five-speed sequential shift unit. Despite being a huge SUV, the MU-X comes with a claimed fuel efficiently of 13.8 kmpl.
On safety front, the SUV features anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake force distribution (EBD), brake assist, electronic stability control (ESC), traction control system (TCS), hill start assist (HSA), dual front airbags and pre-tensioners.
The MU-X will be locally assembled at a new manufacturing facility at Sri City, Andhra Pradesh. The SUV will go up against the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Chevrolet Trailblazer.
