The official website of the Vishakapatnam traffic police was hacked by Pakistani hackers based in Istanbul on Sunday afternoon, said reports.
'Team Pakistan Cyber Attackers,' who said that they were avenging atrocities against Muslims in Kashmir, defaced the site by posting malicious and anti-national content.
The website www.Vizagtrafficpolice, which was hacked at around 2pm in Sunday, was restored two hours later.
The IP address of the hackers were traced to Istanbul and the police believe that they are probably Islamist fundamentalists, who have been randomly targeting websites of the Indian government.
"I don't know why the website of traffic police was hacked as it does not provide any key information. However, we are not taking the issue lightly as the hacker(s) pasted some malicious content," PTI quoted ADCP (Traffic) K Mahendra Patrudu as saying.
The Cyber Crime Investigation Cell is probing into the incident, reports said.
