At least one Palestinian was killed and 10 others injured when Israeli security forces opened fire at the refugee camp in Qalandiya Refugee Camp near Jerusalem, Agence-France Presse quoted its Palestinian medical sources as saying Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Eyad Omar Sajdia, a 22-year-old student, AFP reported citing Palestinian health ministry.
The incident took place Monday night when Israeli troops went to the refugee camp to rescue two Israeli soldiers who had lost their way and entered Qalandiya Refugee Camp near the West Bank city of Ramallah. Their jeep was attacked by stones and firebomb. But, both the soldiers were rescued.
Clashes reportedly broke out between Israeli forces and Palestinians at the camp when they entered to rescue the soldiers. The forces resorted to firing when demonstrators at the camp threw explosives at them. Five Israeli policemen were injured in the clashes.
At least 178 Palestinians, 28 Israelis and one person each from the United States, Sudan and Eritrea have been killed in the violence in Israel since October.
