There are quite a few former Arsenal players plying their trade in the Indian Super League at the moment, with the likes of Robert Pires, Freddie Ljungberg, Mikael Silvestre, Nicolas Anelka and Andre Santos all involved.
However, the biggest Arsenal player of them all could soon join them with reports suggesting Thierry Henry, Arsenal's record goalscorer, is seriously considering signing for an ISL club next season.
Henry was linked with a move to the Indian Super League for its inaugural season, but turned down the chance owing to his commitments in the MLS with the New York Red Bulls.
However, the Arsenal legend has talked things over with another club legend in Pires, as well as Anelka and David Trezeguet, and Henry, who sees his contract with the Red Bulls end this season, could play in the ISL next season, according to L'Equipe.
The report suggests that Pires will become the player-manager for FC Goa next season, with Zico tipped for the India manager's role, recently vacated by Wim Koevermans, with Henry then becoming the marquee player for the Virat Kohli-co-owned franchise.
So far, the ISL has been quite a success with crowds thronging in to watch the likes of Pires, Trezeguet, David James, Alessandro Del Piero and more, and bringing in the likes of Henry will only boost the league even more.
While Henry is well past his prime, he is still quite an outstanding player at the age of 37. Henry made a big impact in the MLS after signing for the New York Red Bulls, helping the American league thrive, and the former Arsenal striker can do the same here in India as well.
Reports have also suggested that Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand is considering a move to the ISL next season, as is Bayern Munich forward Claudio Pizarro.
Ferdinand is currently with Queens Park Rangers in the English Premier League, after leaving Manchester United at the end of last season, and it will be quite a coup for the ISL if they can tempt the legendary defender to make his move to India.
Pizarro is still playing at the highest level as well for Bayern, one of the best clubs in Europe, and the striker will bring the kind of quality that the ISL needs.
Henry, Ferdinand and Pizarro – just three of the names that have been thrown around recently. No doubt, the speculation will only increase as the months pass by and the second season inches closer and closer.
Until then, however, it is all about enjoying this first season of the Indian Super League, which has gotten off to a grand start.
