One of the most interesting Indian Super League seasons so far has thrown up two teams in the last four of the competition, who have never earlier featured in this stage of the Indian football tournament during the past two seasons. This is a brilliant opportunity for Mumbai City FC and Delhi Dynamos to continue stamping their impact at ISL 2016.
Veterans Atletico de Kolkata and Kerala Blasters are also vying for history this season. Can ATK win their second trophy in three seasons and emulate a similar feat as that of Bengaluru FC, who have won two I-League titles in three seasons? That remains to be seen.
Kerala Blasters, too, after coming so close to lifting the title in their inaugural season, lost to Atletico de Kolkata. But with the prospect of the two teams facing each other once again in the ISL 2016 final looming large, can Sachin Tendulkar's side just manage to make history at their home turf in Kochi? That is also one to watch out for.
Mumbai City FC do look to have the edge, however, as they topped the league phase of ISL 2016, while Kerala Blasters came second. Delhi Dynamos and Atletico de Kolkata stood third and fourth, respectively.
The previous two seasons of the Indian Super League, however, saw none of the table toppers from the league phase go all the way and lift the title. Last season, Chennaiyin FC stood third in the league phase before lifting the title, while in the inaugural edition, Atletico de Kolkata, who also stood third, lifted the ISL title.
Is lady luck already in favour of Delhi Dynamos this season? That is yet another important thing we need to keep an eye on.
Meanwhile, this is the ISL 2016 semi finals schedule
