Mumbai City FC have signed Brazilian striker Thiago Cunha in order to bolster their attack as we head into the second half of the ISL 2016 league phase. Mumbai have made a decent start to their campaign so far, winning two of their six matches.
With Alexandre Guimaraes trying to instil a winning mentality, something that hasn't existed in this side over the past two seasons, he is also aware of the need to have as much squad strength as possible and after Argentine forward Gaston Sangoy was ruled out of the season with a fractured foot, the need for a fresh face was evident.
Thiago, Mumbai City will hope, will give them that extra goalscoring option, because the last thing Mumbai City will want is for the entire burden to fall on their marquee man Diego Forlan.
"While losing Gaston to injury was a big blow, in Thiago we have found a great replacement," Guimaraes said in a release. "He has a brilliant goalscoring record and we are confident he is going to be a big asset to the club in the remainder of the season."
Mumbai have struggled to fashion a win after picking up two to open the season. Guimaraes will hope his team leave with all three points on Tuesday when they face ISL 2014 champions Atletico de Kolkata. Batting away questions over if goals have been a problem for Mumbai, Guimaraes insisted his team are headed in the right direction.
"We have scored almost against all the teams and we have created chances, so I am not really worried about this (scoring goals) because we are creating opportunities and we have shown that we play an attacking game like Kolkata and we create chances," Guimaraes added.
"But of course I am not satisfied and I think we have to play a little bit better to have a bit more confidence."
