Indian Super League seaon 1 finalists Kerala Blasters have announced the signing of yet another foreign player ahead of ISL 2016. Haiti striker Kervens Belfort has become the recent acquisition of the the Sachin Tendulkar co-owned side.
Belfort, 24, played with his national team in the Copa America Centenario in the United States earlier this year. The CONCACAF side didn't have a good showing at all in the tournament as they failed to pick up a win and came rockbottom in a group that consisted Brazil and Peru.
Nevertheless, Kerala Blasters will definitely be boosted with the signing of the striker, who played all three games for Haiti in Copa America 2016. Belfort has a total of 12 goals from 35 caps for his national team so far.
With the likes of Michael Chopra and Antonio German already making the front line of Kerala Blasters looking strong as ever, expect Belfort to make the attacking strength increase further.
"I hope to put my international experience to good use playing with the Kerala Blasters," said Belfort after joining the ISL side. "It's my first time in India and I look forward to contributing to the Blasters game in this season of the ISL."
Belfort will take on his compatriot and a familiar face Sony Norde in the Indian Super League third season. Norde is a part of Mumbai City FC.
Kerala Blasters coach Steve Coppell has also welcomed the signing of Belfort and has added that his experience will be massive for the team. "Kervens Belfort comes with good playing experience, both domestic club and international. As a striker, he will be part of the team's attack strategy," said the English coach.
Belfort becomes the seventh foreign player for Kerala Blasters ahead of ISL 2016. The other players being Aaron Hughes, Graham Stack, Michael Chopra, Ouzin Ndoye, Josu and Antonio German.
