Cameroon-born Armenian goalkeeper Edel Bete -- one of the best custodians ever in the history of the Indian Super League -- signed for FC Pune City, co-owned by Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan, on Monday. The star player plied his trade with Atletico de Kolkata in the first season of the ISL and with Chennaiyin FC in the second season.
Bete, 30, won the title in both the editions of the Indian football competition and it remains to be seen whether FC Pune City becomes lucky this time around after having brought him in the team.
Bete, who has played for French giants PSG in the past, made 22 appearances in the ISL over the course of two seasons and made his mark in an instant. "My experience playing in India has been memorable to say the least. I've won the title with two different teams and am looking forward to win it with my third team, i.e. FC Pune City," the 30-year-old said.
"I am thankful to FC Pune City for providing me a new challenge and work with Habas again," he added.
Bete also reunites with former Atletico de Kolkata coach Antonio Habas at the Pune franchisee and the collaboration is expected to work wonders once again for the Maharashtra side this time around. "I've worked with Bete in the first season and let me tell you he is gifted with amazing reflexes and better anticipation," said Spanish coach Habas.
"Rival strikers have never found it easy to score against him. For me, he is the finest keeper in ISL's short history."
