FC Goa made history on Tuesday night by reaching the final of the Indian Super League for the first time FC Goa eased past Delhi Dynamos 3-0 in front of their home fans in the second leg of the semifinal in Fatorda.
Joffre, Rafael and Dudu scored the goals to give Goa a 3-1 aggregate victory. FC Goa will now face the winner of Atletico de Kolkata and Chennaiyin FC in the ISL 2015 final.
FC Goa started the game in the best possible way as they went for the kill right from the start. The trio of Joffre, Rafael Coelho and Leo Moura in the attacking third for the majority, unsettling the Delhi Dynamos defence.
Joffre gave the home side the lead and levelled the aggregate score after he displayed brilliant individual skill to get past the Delhi Dynamos defenders with ease before pulling the trigger. The Spanish midfielder got the better of John Arne Riise, as he cut inside the box from the left flank to unleash a powerful shot on goal with his left foot in the 11th minute.
Rafael brought smiles to the faces of the home fans as he scored the second of the night for FC Goa in the 27th minute. The Brazilian midfielder was fed a wonderful long ball by Indian defender Bikramjit Singh, and once Rafael got control of the ball, he hit a wonderful strike across goal, which went in off the post, with Dynamos goalkeeper Toni Doblas helpless.
There was an instant response from the away side as Robin Singh went for the spectacular from a difficult angle, but the ball just breezed past the post. Even Florent Malouda did his best to create chances for Delhi Dynamos in the first half, but the ex-Chelsea star remained unlucky.
The goal tally for the home side was on the verge of increasing with the start of the second half, but Toni Doblas put his reflexes to the best of use by keeping out Romeo Fernandes' shot from close-range. The scoring opportunity wasn't over yet as the ball fell onto the path of Moura, but the Brazilian completely missed the target.
Adil Nabi, Richard Gadze, Sehnaj Singh and almost every Delhi Dynamos player took potshots on goal during the match as the closing stages neared. Roberto Carlos looked increasingly desperate, as the manager watched the match unfold from the sidelines.
The final nail in the coffin of Delhi Dynamos was put in by Dudu Omagbemi in the 86th minute of play. The Nigerian scored the third goal of the match after some wonderful build-up from FC Goa, that saw Joffre and Romeo combine at either ends to put forward a wonderful ball for Dudu, who slotted home neatly.
