Mumbai City FC have finally managed to move up the points table and occupy the sixth position as they outclassed FC Goa by 2-0 in match no. 21 of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2015 at the DY Patil Stadium on Sunday.
Sunil Chhetri and Frederic Piquionne were the two goal scorers who powered Mumbai City FC to their second victory on the trot in this season of the ISL.
The game started off with two teams trying to attack but the home side got the better off FC Goa as their attacking index were much higher than Zico's men.
Mumbai City FC could have scored more than two goals as they came close to finding the back of the net a number of times throughout the match. In the 11th minute Piquionne missed a golden opportunity to open the scoring by hitting it straight to the goalkeeper.
In the 32nd minute Raju Gaekwad pushed Piquionne inside the penalty box and the referee straight away rewarded the home side with a penalty. Chhetri scored from the spot-kick and broke the deadlock. Chhetri also scored his third goal of ISL 2015 and that too all of them came in a winning cause.
Few minutes later, Darryl Duffy too missed yet another chance. That could have been the equaliser but it was not FC Goa's day, as it seemed to be.
Mumbai City FC could not relax with a one-goal cushion against a team like FC Goa. They were always looking hungry for more goals.
In the 48th minute, Juan Aguilera's cross, found Piquionne's head and then came the second goal of the game. Mumbai City FC looked really comfortable on the ball throughout the game after that.
Victorino Fernandes missed at least five-six chances. Surprisingly, Zico deployed Mandar Rao Dessai, Romeo Fernandes and Jofre in the second half and that too after conceding a couple of goals. They could not find their way back after that.
FC Goa are making it a habit of conceding first in almost all their games. But in their last two games they came back from behind. That did not happen in their clash against Anelka and his men in blue.
Mumbai City FC can breathe a sigh of relief as they moved up the points table. They also will gain a lot of confidence after beating the table toppers comprehensively.
The fans who had come down to watch this exciting encounter in spite of the downpour ahead of the match went home satisfied.
Zico will have to worry about a number of things ahead of their next encounter. On the other hand, Mumbai City FC will be hosting NorthEast United FC in their next game at the same venue on Wednesday.
