Chiyaan Vikram, Nayanthara and Nithya Menen's "Iru Mugan" has continued its good run on weekdays. After getting a fantastic opening, the collection of the Tamil movie has remained stable and it is now showing signs of becoming the third biggest hit of 2016 after Rajinikanth's "Kabali" and Ilaythalapathy Vijay's "Theri."
Anand Shankar-directorial "Iru Mugan" and its Telugu version "Inkokkadu" had earned Rs. 51.19 crore in its four-day first weekend. The film has reportedly added a little over Rs. 14 crore on weekdays (Monday and Tuesday) to take its total tally to Rs. 65.25 crore.
Speaking to the press, the makers of "Iru Mugan" on Wednesday, Sept. 14, said that the film has grossed Rs. 29.25 crore in Tamil Nadu. They are predicting the movie to do a total business of Rs. 50 crore in the state and Rs. 8 crore from Chennai alone. The Vikram-starrer has already raked in Rs. 3.5 crore in the capital city of Tamil Nadu.
The trade experts say that "Iru Mugan" is likely to become the third biggest Tamil hit in 2016 after "Kabali" and "Theri," which earned over Rs. 300 crore and 150 crore, respectively, at the worldwide box office.
"Iru Mugan" was released in 425 screens in Tamil Nadu on Sept. 8. The movie is likely to retain all the screens in its second week as there is no competition for the film.
The Tamil film opened to mixed reviews. Surprisingly, it did not impact much on the film's business as "Iru Mugan" managed to pull the audience in good numbers in all four days on the first weekend. On the release day, it minted Rs. 12.66 crore and added Rs. 10.12 crore on its second day to take its two-day tally to Rs. 22.78 crore.
In the next two days, "Iru Mugan," which is made with the budget of Rs. 40 crore, collected Rs. 13.94 crore and 14.47 crore to take its first weekend tally to Rs. 51.19 crore.
