Vikram-starrer Iru Mugan, which was released on 8 September, has reportedly turned out to be a profitable venture for the movie's producer, distributors and exhibitors.
According to trade reports, the combined collection of Iru Mugan and its Telugu version Inkokkadu stands at Rs 90.07 crore by the end of its second weekend. After getting a flying start, the film managed to retain good viewership throughout the weekdays.
Iru Mugan, which had minted Rs 5.5 crore on the opening day, ended its first weekend at Rs 51.19 crore. In the next seven days, the film collected Rs 38.88 crore with an average business of Rs 5.5 crore per day.
The movie is now getting ready to hit a century at the worldwide box office and it is likely to reach the Rs 100-crore mark this week. As per trade experts, Iru Mugan has given good profits to not only the producer, but also to the distributors and exhibitors.
The film has become one of the biggest commercial hits in Vikram's career and is likely to become the third biggest hit of 2016 in Kollywood after Rajinikanth's Kabali and Ilayathalapathy Vijay's Theri, which reportedly earned over Rs 300 crore and Rs 150 crore, respectively.
Iru Mugan, which is said to be made with the budget of Rs 40 crore, is a science fiction thriller, written and directed by Anand Shankar. Nayanthara and Nithya Menen are in the female leads in the flick, bankrolled by Shibu Thameens.
