Vikram's "Iru Mugan" has performed well on its second day at the box office despite receiving mixed reviews from audience and critics. The Tamil film has made a decent collection and is getting ready to end the first weekend on a high note.
"Iru Mugan", which was released in over 400 screens in Tamil Nadu, has minted Rs. 5.5 crore to become the second biggest opener of Vikram after "I." The romantic thriller, released in January 2015, had earned over Rs. 8 crore on the first day.
On its second day, "Iru Mugan" earned over Rs. 3.5 crore. The two-day gross collection now stands at Rs. 9 crore.
"#IruMugan has been carrying mixed reports, but big surprise is that film has been holding well on day 2 TN & will settle down over weekend/ [sic]" trade tracker Sreedhar Pillai tweeted about the film's performance on its second day.
The trade experts are predicting "Iru Mugan" to do fantastic business on Saturday and Sunday as the advance bookings for the weekend shows have met with huge success. The movie is expected to end its first weekend at Rs. 15 crore to Rs. 16 crore.
After a slow start, "Inkokkadu," the Telugu version of "Iru Mugan," has also performed well on its second day in Andhra Pradesh. "#Inkokkadu BO is pretty Good this Friday. Good start to the weekend, [sic]" Andhra Box Office tweeted.
The movie has also done well in Kerala, but it has not seen the light of the day in Karnataka as theatre owners fear attacks from Kannada groups when Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are at loggerheads over Cauvery water sharing issue.
Vikram is playing a double role in the spy thriller. Nayanthara and Nithya Menen are the female leads in the flick written and directed by Anand Shankar and produced by Shibu Thameens.
