"Iron Man" fans have been desperately waiting for an update on the fourth instalment of this very popular franchise. While speculations are still running wild whether Marvel Studios will release "Iron Man 4" or not, it looks like Robert Downey Jr in his recent interview may have just hinted that it may not happen.
In a recent interview with the USA Today, Downey Jr firmly spoke about "Avengers: Infinity War," but called "Captain America: Civil War," which is also known as "Cap 3," as his little "Iron Man 4," hinting at the uncertainty of Iron Man's future. When the actor was asked about the fourth solo Iron Man film, he reportedly said that it would be a great idea, but admitted: "I don't think that's in the cards."
"In a way it's Cap 3 but for me it's like my little Iron Man 4 and then it's back to the thing we all recognise. Everything pulls over to the side of the road when the thunder of an Avengers thing comes through because that's how it is until it changes. If it changes," he added.
In almost every interview, directly or indirectly, Downey Jr has been repeatedly denying that he would be coming back as Tony Stark/ Iron Man. In fact, in one of his interviews, he had said that he would be old to do the superhero stunts by the time "Iron Man 4" releases and will accept the reality that his clock is ticking.
There have been a lot of rumours revolving around the future for the "Iron Man" franchise. Some reports have said that "Iron Man 4" may not happen because Downey Jr's contract has ended with "Iron Man 3," and if the studio has to renew it, then it may come at a very high price. On the other hand, many outlets have said that the fourth instalment may actually release in phase 3 of Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is not before 2019. In fact, some have also claimed that he may return only to play Tony Stark, while Ty Simpkins will take over as the new Iron Man.
Now, is "Iron Man 4" not happening at all? Will Downey Jr return only as Tony Stark? Or whether Ty Simpkins will take over as the new Iron Man? We will have answers to all these questions only when Marvel Studios make an official announcement about "Iron Man 4."
