Avengers: Infinity War was the biggest Marvel movie ever in terms of the box office collection and the ensemble star cast. The film brought together almost all superheroes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to fight the seemingly indestructible Thanos.
Fans watched the Mad Titan snap his fingers, wrapped in a gauntlet of infinity stones, to wipe away half the universe and set up the plot for Avengers 4. Some of the most beloved superheroes simply disintegrated in moments, including the Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man and more.
While it served as an epic watch for fans, Iron Man 3 director Shane Black slightly dissed the movie. While promoting his upcoming movie, The Predator, at the ongoing San Diego Comic-Con, the filmmaker spoke about the Avengers movie and his thoughts will not please Marvel fans.
Black said Thanos could have been believable threat provided he would not have felt weak in front of Spider-Man, especially after he defeated The Hulk and Captain America.
One moment there's a train coming at him he can turn it into a flock of birds. The next minute Spider-Man is coming at him and he's like, 'Oh, my eyes! It's got webbing!' I loved the movie, it's just, the kid had to do something, so…
While his comment made headlines almost immediately, Black clarified that he joked about the webbing Thanos' eye scene. "What we try to stay away from is a sense of the toxic fandom," he told IGN.
We don't want to ruffle any feathers. So I hope, I really hope that it's O.K. to talk fondly about a Marvel movie that I really love which is Avengers: Infinity War. And I made a joke about the webbing going in Thanos' eye.
"So it comes up I threw shade. 'Director throws shade at Marvel.' I didn't throw shade! I love Marvel. They gave me everything I got!" he added.
