Iran has vehemently dismissed recent reports that its Foreign Minister Javad Zarif's son was the 'best man' at the wedding of US Secretary of State John Kerry's daughter, and has called such reports a 'media hoax'.
A US website said to be run by former US Congressman Allen West, had recently posted an article claiming that Zarif's son had attended Vanessa Kerry's wedding in 2009, and was the best man for the groom, Brian Vala Nahed.
The article also claims that Kerry had kept the 'Iranian' descent of his son-in-law under wraps for a long time.
The article elicited a stern reaction from the Iranian government, which announced through its state news agency IRNA that the story was 'pure fabrication'. "US website's claim about Zarif son is media hoax," IRNA quotes a foreign ministry official as saying.
Iran's foreign ministry also accused the US media of running the story for 'attracting readership'.
The article and the angry reaction come not long after the two leaders - Kerry and Zarif - inked the historic nuclear deal last month, paving way for lifting decades of sanctions on Iran in return for checks on its nuclear programme.
The Iran nuclear deal had got sharp reactions from Republicans in the US, who have even vowed to kill the deal in the Congress vote in September.
Javad Zarif, who is usually active on Twitter, does not seemed to have responded to the reports personally.
