Karthik Subbaraj's "Iraivi" has got a decent start in the U.S. box office. The movie had its premiere on Thursday, June 2, from which it has made a notable collection.
It has collected $16,450 from the premiere and the trade experts are expecting the business to witness a good growth in the weekend. "#Iraivi collects $16,450 in #USA for Premieres.. Should do well there this wknd.. @SigaramUSA Rel.. @saaransaravanan," PR Ramesh tweeted. The success of Karthik Subbaraj's previous two movies "Pizza" and "Jigarthanda" is expected to have played a major role in pulling audience to theatres.
"Iraivi" has been jointly released by Sigaram Visual Media and Praneeth Media in the U.S. The screen count of the film is above 40 and expected to reach 50.
The Tamil movie has been well-received by the cine-goers, and critics have given 3 to 3.5 ratings for "Iraivi." Generally, a movie that wins critical acclaim performs well in the U.S. box office. Hence, trade experts have pinned high hopes on this film.
However, it is not the same case back home where audience prefer commercial films to critically-acclaimed flicks. Many trade experts feel that "Iraivi" is restricted to a section of audience and mass might not like it due to the absence of regular commercial elements.
Apart from this factor, Karthik Subbaraj's film is facing a big challenge from other new release "Velainu Vandhutta Vellaikaaran," a complete comedy entertainer, which has won positive reviews. Also, Simbu's "Idhu Namma Aalu," which hit the screens last week, is doing well at the box office.
"Iraivi" is an emotional-drama starring SJ Suryah, Vijay Sethupathi and Bobby Simha. Kamalinee Mukherjee, Anjali and Pooja Devariya are the female leads in the flick.
The movie is about the relationship between men and women. The film also highlights how the women are being taken for granted. The performance of the characters has turned out to be the biggest strength of "Iraivi."
