After a fantastic Day 1 of the International Premier Tennis League, all the superstar players will resume their battles for their respective teams in Day 2 action in Manila.
The Indian Aces got off to a splendid start on Day 1, brushing aside the Singapore Slammers, and that too sans Roger Federer. The Aces will now look for more of the same when they take on the home team the Manila Mavericks, who lost their opening encounter to the UAE Royals, on Saturday .
Even without Federer or legend Pete Sampras, the Indian Aces looked like a formidable unit against the Slammers, with Gael Monfils and Ana Ivanovic shining bright, while the Indian duo of Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza also did their bits.
The comprehensive 26-16 win will give the Indian Aces plenty of confidence going into their second match, particularly after watching the Manila Mavericks struggle for consistency against the UAE Royals in front of their own crowd.
"The crowd was amazing, they were really into the match," said Indian Aces star Ivanovic. "It was great to see and made the match more exciting. I'm really happy to spend time with all of the players on the team bench.
"The team spirit is great, we laugh a lot and make jokes and really support each other during points. It's very interesting to get into the team spirit because we don't get it that much in tennis because we are always travelling.
"It was a great match and also fun format."
The first tie of the day will be played between the UAE Royals and the Singapore Slammers, with one team in a buoyant mood after an impressive win and the other looking to bounce back from a severe defeat.
