Gary Kirsten is one of the most respected coaches in India as it was under his tenure that the Men in Blue won the ICC 2011 World Cup. The former India coach has been a part of the Indian Premier League in the past with Delhi Daredevils, and now the South African could be roped in by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) ahead of the 11th edition.
RCB have been part of the IPL since the advent of the cash-rich event, but are yet to win the title. RCB have been a tad unlucky as they have reached the finals thrice so far, and have nothing to show for it.
IPL 2017 was a major disappointment. They were knocked out of the competition before the knockout stages despite having a team studded with stars. RCB will be looking towards Kirsten to help them attain glory in IPL 2018. Daniel Vettori was the coach of RCB for the last four seasons.
However, one has to remember that RCB might have shown interest in Kirsten due to his sheer international record as coach of India and South Africa. His record as Delhi's coach is not great.
Even though Kirsten will deal with the coaching duties for RCB, Daniel Vettori will still be an integral part of the team management, reported ESPN Cricinfo.
This news of Kirsten 's association with RCB has not been made official. If the news is confirmed, Kirsten has some massive tasks before the mega auction, which is set to take place in Bengaluru next month, as he needs to take some tough decisions regarding the players' retention.
The communication may have to be done via skype call or phone to the team management as Kirsten is currently the coach of the Big Bash League team, Hobart Hurricanes. The BBL started on Tuesday.
