Some of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises including Kolkata Knight Riders, Rising Pune Supergiants, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Daredevils and Kings XI Punjab are not too happy with London as the workshop venue. They want the venues to be somewhere closer to India, and most preferably Dubai. The workshop is scheduled to be held early next year.
One of the main problems for the franchises with London is the time taken for their officials to travel, hence they have written about it to the Board of Council for Cricket in India. The workshop is an important part before the real action begins, and franchises would prefer to send a good contingent in the workshop, but if the venue remains to be London, they might have to limit that number for various reasons.
"Many franchises have written to BCCI saying they don't want London to be the venue. Instead they want Dubai or another destination, which takes not more than four hours to reach. The BCCI is going to look into this request," the Indian Express quoted a BCCI official as saying.
With franchises having expressed their desire for Dubai, the BCCI may decide to shift the venue. The BCCI is expected to arrive on the decision soon.
Meanwhile, there are some franchises, who also feel that the best possible option could be India as well. Due to the logistics and travel expenses one has to spend good money if the workshop happens outside India.
"If the conference happens in India, then we can cut costs. We all know what is the current financial status of these franchise. Many don't want to spend too much money. If the IPL workshop happens in India then these franchises can ensure that more of their officials attend it," another franchisee official said.
