IPL 2017: Rain washes out RCB vs SRH match at the Chinnaswamy

Nothing seems to be going right for the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the moment. After putting on their worst ever batting performance in IPL history, indeed the worst ever batting performance by any team in IPL history, RCB needed a win, a win at all costs to give them the momentum required to try and make it to the top four.

The Bengaluru weather Gods, though, had other ideas.

It rained and then stopped for a while in Bengaluru just before the start of the RCB vs SRH IPL 2017 match, and just when it looked like we actually might get a game on time – the toss was scheduled for 7.40pm local time – the weather Gods seemed to say not so fast.

The rain returned and this time, for good.

It poured and then went into a steady drizzle and it poured again, before that steady will-not-go-away drizzle took hold, turning this IPL 2017 Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Sunrisers Hyderabad match into a washout, with it officially called off at 11pm local time.

The crowd, the majority of them who waited patiently for some form of game to be played, had to return home disappointed, but nobody will be more disappointed than the RCB players.

This was their chance to try and bounce back from being bowled out for 49 against KKR on Sunday, but unfortunately, not even a single ball was to be bowled. There wasn't even a chance for the toss.

RCB, as it sits right now, moved up to sixth in the IPL 2017 points table, after they collected one point from the abandoned match. But this was one they needed all two points from.

Now, to have a realistic chance of making it to the playoffs of the Indian Premier League this season, RCB need to win all six of their remaining matches.

They went on a tear last season to qualify for the playoffs, and while Virat Kohli, AB De Villiers, Chris Gayle and the rest are certainly capable of winning six in a row, it does look like this might be one of those disappointing seasons for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad could have also used a win, but they will be relatively satisfied to take a point from this match, their first point away from home, having lost all three of their previous games on their travels.

SRH started the day third in the points table, and they stay third with nine points – four wins plus the one gained on Tuesday – in eight matches.

RCB next play the Gujarat Lions, also at the Chinnaswamy on Thursday, while SRH travel to Mohali for a game against Kings XI Punjab on Friday.
