Early in IPL 2017, Delhi Daredevils were a team that showed eagerness to bat first, but things have changed now, and they are looking to chase instead. They have been successful so far, with impressive performances from their batsmen while chasing. The formula to chase and win could be their mantra when they host Mumbai Indians at Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi on Saturday.
They were always a strong bowling unit, with the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Pat Cummins and Chris Morris in their line-up, but after their batting has clicked, DD have become a major force, beating teams like Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Though DD batting primarily depends on their youngsters like Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson, they have some experienced players in the middle like Corey Anderson and Morris to steer the ship, if something goes wrong at the top.
Delhi Daredevils might be placed at the sixth spot in the IPL 2017 points table at present, but they can still reach the Playoffs if they play good cricket, and win at least three of their last four matches. If DD beat Mumbai Indians, it will be a step in the right direction, but they need to maintain that consistency for the remainder of the matches too.
The home team will need a combined effort from all their players to help DD win their third match on a trot. Mumbai, on the other hand, will be eager to end that winning streak.
MI had defeated DD in their last head-to-head match, and are looking for a season double. Though Mumbai Indians bowlers destroyed DD top order in their last game, things have changed, as DD batting has flourished in the recent games. It remains to be seen how Mumbai bowlers will bowl to Samson and Pant, both of whom have been in dangerous form for Delhi Daredevils.
With experienced wicket takers such as Mitchell McCleneghan and Lasith Malinga in his side, skipper Rohit will look for an inspiring bowling performance from the two pacers.
Mumbai Indians have a good batting line-up too, and with Rohit coming back to form, things are falling in place for MI.
However, they will look for some solid batting performance from openers Jos Buttler and Parthiv Patel, who will look to provide a perfect base for the rest of the batsmen to score big runs.
Where to watch
The IPL match between DDvs MI is scheduled for 8:00 pm IST, 3:30pm BST and 10:30am ET start.
