Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) owner Vijay Mallya has announced that he will be the chief mentor of the IPL team.
The Bangalore outfit, which has never won the Indian Premier League, has New Zealand veteran Daniel Vettori as the head coach of the side. Apart from the Kiwi star, the likes of Virat Kohli, Shane Watson, AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle feature in the star-studded 26-member squad for RCB in IPL 2016.
Mallya, who has been a one-time Indian billionaire, also admitted that he was pleased with his team's buys in the IPL Player Auction 2016, where RCB bought Australian hard-hitter Shane Watson for Rs 9.5 crore ($1.3 million).
Apart from Watson, a host of other players, including Stuart Binny, Kane Richardson, Travis Head, Samuel Badree, Praveen Dubey, Vikramjeet Malik, Akshay Karnewar, Vikas Tokas, Iqbal Abdullah and Sachin Baby, were bought by RCB.
Vijay Mallya's son Sidhartha Mallya is presently the director of the IPL team.
