Former India opening batsman Virender Sehwag had said earlier that he was open to a mentor/ coaching role, revealing he would say yes if any team approaches him for the upcoming season of the IPL.
It seems like Sehwag's wishes have come true after the destructive batsman was roped in as the mentor of the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) for the upcoming season of the IPL.
Sehwag played for KXIP in the last couple of seasons of the IPL and he is happy to continue his association with the franchise.
"I am extremely happy to continue my journey with Kings XI Punjab. Given the relationship and camaraderie I share with the squad, management and promoters, it feels like I am with my extended family," Sehwag was quoted as saying by the official website of the IPL.
"Being a part of KXIP has always been a special experience and I am looking forward to the upcoming season in my new role."
KXIP will look to forget their last IPL campaign and play better cricket in IPL 2016. Kings XI finished at the bottom of the points table in 2015 despite being the runners-up in 2014.
They will look to put Sehwag's experience and advice to good use in IPL 2016 and start their campaign on a high note.
KXIP head coach Sanjay Bangar is confident that his team will do well in IPL 2016 as the team will benefit from Sehwag's guidance.
"Virender Sehwag has been an integral part of the KXIP squad over the last two seasons and understands the dynamics of the team very well. With him stepping in as the mentor, the team will immensely benefit from his guidance and advice," Bangar added.
"His knowledge of the game will certainly help in establishing a strong team and bring out the best in all the players. I am sure that Sehwag will prove to be a great mentor and his presence will be extremely appreciated by the squad."
