Australian batting all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is the latest player to join the IPL 2016 injury list. Kings XI Punjab's (KXIP) Maxwell has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2016 due to a side strain.
Maxwell suffered the injury during Kings XI Punjab's last match, against the Sunrisers Hyderabad last weekend. As a result, Maxwell has decided to head back home and give himself time to recover from the injury before the tri-series for Australia, to be played in the West Indies.
"Glenn reported increasing soreness in his left abdomen area following last night's (Sunday's) match and as such a decision was made for him to return home for further assessment and treatment ahead of the West Indies tour," Australia's support team physiotherapist David Beakley was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
"From the information we have so far, the injury does not appear to be something that will prevent Glenn from participating in this tour, but we are keen to give him the necessary time to recover before departing to the West Indies at the end of this month."
Maxwell is the second Australian to leave early from the tournamenr for KXIP. Earlier this month, Shaun Marsh went back home due to a back injury.
Maxwell was not having the best of seasons in IPL 2016 with his bat. Maxwell could only manage 179 runs in 11 matches at an average of 19.88.
KXIP have two more matches left in IPL 2016 – against the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the the Rising Pune Supergiants. While their chances of making the playoffs are gone, KXIP will want to end the tournament on a high by winning both these games.
