Mumbai Indians all-rounder Kieron Pollard sellotaped his mouth after the umpire intervened following a bit of banter with fellow West Indian and RCB opener Chris Gayle on the field during the Match 16 of IPL 2015 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday.
RCB were chasing a steep target of 210 runs set by the MI. They started the chase slowly and Gayle played out a Lasith Malinga over quietly without scoring a run and that spurred Pollard to say a few words to the big batsman, who was struggling to score runs freely.
It did not go unnoticed and immediately the on field umpire stepped in and requested Pollard to avoid any banter on the field.
To put up a silent protest, Pollard then came out with his mouth sellotaped. He kept that tape for quite a while and only removed it later. The players on and off the field enjoyed the 'entertainment' and so did the crowd at the stadium. The commentators and players shared a laugh on social media website Twitter as well.
Harsha Bhogle tweeted: "The tape on the mouth from Kieron Pollard is one of the most bizarre things I have seen. He does have a "come look at me" about him."
Former Australian batsman Damien martyn too expressed himself on Twitter: "Very funny last night.. Need entertainers still in the game @KieronPollard55 @IPL." Dean Jones shared his laughter - " @bharatkhatter: Haha @KieronPollard55 , love this game of cricket @henrygayle #IPL #RCBvsMI."
After the match got over Pollard expressed his views on the incident on Twitter. "There was no spat, please let's not look for a story media.. If I do wrong I will accept , but don't pick at me for no reason...!!"
