Apple iPhone users have the exclusive privilege of iMessage and Facetime, which helps them stay connected with their other iPhone user friends. Look at it as the benefits of a private club.

While Facetime is used for video calling, iMessage works as an instant messenger for iPhone users. Just like WhatsApp, iMessage has a feature that lets you see if the recipient has received and read a message. It is a helpful feature, but some users would rather have that feature disabled not to dampen the sender's mood if unable to reply.

You can turn the read receipts on or off in iMessage, but if you are unable to find the setting here's a step-by-step guide to help you out.

Step 1: Go to "Settings" on your iPhone.

Step 2: Select Messages from the list of options.

Step 3: Go to the fourth option in the list for "Send Read Receipts" and turn the toggle button to on or off.

If the read receipt setting is turned off, the toggle button will be white, and green if the setting is on.

But what if you wish to have the read receipt notification turned on or off for one particular contact? Apple has you covered.

To do so, launch Messages from the home-screen. Select the iMessage conversation you want to change the setting for, and then tap on "i" in the top right hand corner. Scroll down to "Send Read Receipts" and toggle the switch to on or off.
