As the release date of Apple's upcoming flagship smartphone dubbed as iPhone 6 is drawing near, it is natural for gadget lovers to draw comparisons with other smartphones available in the market. One of the devices that will give iPhone 6 a run for its money when it is launched is the HTC One M8.
Apple is expected to unveil its upcoming next-generation device next month, though it is yet to make an official announcement. A source told MacRumors citing an internal Apple Retail Store meeting that iPhone 6 could be unveiled on 16 September before releasing it on 14 October, contradicting ApfelPage's report that the device might be released on 19 September.
On the other hand, HTC One M8 was released a few months ago. It got good reviews from critics and sales have been good so far.
Apple is releasing two models of iPhone 6 – 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch variants – and it is the smaller model that will take on HTC's flagship smartphone. The 16GB HTC One M8 LTE version with unlocked SIM card slot has a price tag of $649, and going by the price of iPhone 5s, which costs $649 for its 16GB variant (unlocked), price of iPhone 6 may not be very different.
iPhone 6 4.7-inch model may have a 1920x1080p (440ppi) resolution, protected by sapphire crystal glass screen, while HTC One M8 sports a 5.0-inch Super LCD3 capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels (441 ppi pixel density). Apple's device is expected to be powered by a 20-nanometer A8 chip (64-bit) processor, run on iOS 8 and come packed with 2GB RAM, while HTC's flagship device has Qualcomm MSM8974AB Snapdragon 801 processor, runs on Android v4.4.2 KitKat (upgradable to v4.4.3 KitKat) and houses 2GB RAM.
Apple's upcoming device may have an 8MP camera with upgrades, including flash and Optical Image Stabilization, and will house a 2,100 mAh or 1,800 mAh battery. Meanwhile, HTC One M8 has dual 4MP camera with autofocus and dual-LED flash, and houses a Li-Po 2600 mAh battery.
