Amid speculations on the release date of Apple's upcoming flagship smartphone, dubbed as iPhone 6, a new report has claimed that the device would be unveiled in the month of September.
The leaked internal documents of German wireless carrier Deutsche Telekom have revealed that the iPhone 6 would be unveiled on 19 September, according to a report by German website ApfelPage. It added that the device will be released on the day of unveiling and will be available on the carrier besides Apple Stores.
The leak could be seen as an attempt by the mobile phone carrier to attract Apple iPhone customers, whose contracts are about to expire. The news came after a news report claimed that Apple Inc. has blocked its employees from taking leave in the month of September, anticipating huge interest on its flagship smartphone.
Several contradictory reports on the release date of iPhone 6 have surfaced over the last few months. UBS Managing Director Steve Milunovich claimed through a research note (via Barron's) that the 4.7-inch variant of iPhone 6 would be launched either in August or September. Nikkei also reported that the device would be launched as early as September. It was also reported that it would be unveiled at Apple's upcoming WWDC event in June but that doesn't seem to hold water at this point of time.
In a recent report, Reuters claimed citing Taiwan's Economic Daily News that the 4.7-inch model would be released in August, while the 5.5-inch variant would arrive in September.
However, the device will most probably arrive in September if one is to go by Apple's past trend. It may be recalled that iPhone 5, iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c were released in the same month.
Apple is reportedly launching two variants of iPhone – a 4.7-inch and a 5.5-inch – models with full scratch-free sapphire crystal glass screen. The smaller model is expected to sport a 1920x1080p (440ppi) resolution while the larger device is expected to have a 2272×1280 (510ppi) resolution, according to South Korean brokerage KDB Daewoo Securities.
The device is expected to be powered by a 20-nanometer A8 chip (64-bit) but come with only 1GB of RAM as seen in A7. It may run on iOS 8 with iWatch connectivity and several other health-related features. There are also reports that it would run on iOS 7.2. When it comes to camera, the Cupertino giant may use iPhone 5S' 8MP camera with several upgrades like flash, Optical Image Stabilisation and superior flash.
The next-generation smartphone will feature low temperature polysilicon in-cell touch panels, Touch ID fingerprint security, NFC and metal casing, according to a report by Apple Insider citing analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. It may also have sensors that can detect pressure, temperature and humidity, claimed Chinese analyst Sun Chang Xu.
