Indian firm Intex Technologies has reportedly announced that the company would launch MediaTek's Octa-core processor-powered handset early next year.
Intex, while unwrapping the prototype of the yet-to-be-named flagship Octa-Core phablet in Delhi, stated the company would release the device in January with a sub-₹20,000 price-tag, reported AndroidOS.
The developmental model has been temporarily christened as Aqua i17 (final name will be revealed during launch). It sports a mammoth 6.0-inch IPS HD (720x1280p) LCD screen with metal body cover and runs on the Android v4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS.
The main USP of Intex phablet is its MediaTek's chipset MT-6592, which is touted as the true Octa-core processor as all the 8 cores of the semiconductor work in unison while performing a task.
It is very different to Exynos 5 chipset that Samsung calls an Octa-core. The Exynos 5 houses two set of quad-core chips who operate independently, based on the intensity of the task. Four Cortex-A15 cores gets activated while performing heavy-duty operations, whereas the other four Cortex-A7 cores only does less intensive functionalities.
Other specifications of Intex Aqua i17 include 2GB RAM, 16GB/32GB inbuilt memory, 13.0-megapixel main camera, 5.0-megapixel secondary camera, Yamaha dual speakers, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Once launched, the Intex will have the distinction of being the India's first indigenous company to bring in the Octa-core device to the subcontinent. As of now, MNC outfit Samsung is the only vendor in India to sell 8-core smartphones - Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3.
