Channel V's new dance fiction show "D4- Get Up and Dance" is garnering positive response from viewers since it went on air Feb. 22. The show has Utkarsh Gupta and Niyati Fatnani in lead roles.
While Utkarsh rose to popularity with his role of Dhruv in "Kaisi Yeh Yaariaan" and had also participated in "Splitsvilla 8," Niyati is making her acting debut with "D4- Get Up and Dance."
"D4- Get Up and Dance" is a young romantic drama, which showcases the life of a young girl named Baby (played by Niyati), who is a talented dancer. However, Baby's life changes when she meets her dance idol Mikhail (played by Utkarsh).
In an exclusive interview with International Business Times India, Utkarsh opened up on why he signed the show, his relationship with his previous show's co-actors and upcoming projects.
Here are the edited excerpts from the interview –
International Business Times: Why did you decide to work on this show?
Utkarsh: There is no particular reason why I chose to do this show. But, yes, I am lucky to have bagged the show.
IBT: How is it working with your "D4-Get Up and Dance" co-star Niyati Fatnani?
Utkarsh: Niyati, the entire team of "D4- Get Up and Dance" including the director, the creative team are like family to me. It's fun to work with them as we involve in a lot of crazy stuff on the sets. It's been three months since we have been shooting and the work environment is also good.
IBT: Considering you had participated in "Splitsvilla 8" and "Dance India Dance," will you participate in any other reality shows like "Bigg Boss," "Khatron Ke Khiladi," "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa" if offered?
Utkarsh: Yes, I would love to. But right now, I want to concentrate on my show. I don't believe in working on two shows simultaneously. Also, I hardly get free time as I am continuously shooting for the show ("D4- Get Up and Dance"). But if offered (reality shows) after a few years, I would definitely consider participating in it.
IBT: Can you tell us more about your upcoming projects?
Utkarsh: Right now I don't want to think about anything else apart from my show.
IBT: This is your first show as lead. Will you restrict yourself to playing only the lead roles hereafter?
Utkarsh: (Laughs) I don't mind playing the second lead role, in fact, I have no issues playing any role that is offered to me.
IBT: Talk a little about your Bollywood dreams.
Utkarsh: I will be very happy if offered a Bollywood film.
IBT: Are you in touch with your "Spiltsvilla 8" co-contestant Prince Narula?
Utkarsh: He is very busy in his life. We are in touch over the phone and wish each other on important occasions. It is difficult to spare some time to meet as I am busy shooting for the show, while he is occupied with his own work commitments.
IBT: You are popular among your fans as Dhruv from "Kaisi Yeh Yaariaan." Is there any similarity between Dhruv and your character Mikhail in "D4- Get Up and Dance?"
Utkarsh: There is no similarity between Mikhail and Dhruv as such except that all of us (me, Dhruv and Mikhail) always follow their heart.
IBT: Are you in touch with your "Kaisi Yeh Yaariaan" co-actor Parth Samthaan after the WhatsApp controversy?
Utkarsh: (Laughs) No, he doesn't talk to me anymore. As for the WhatsApp controversy, since all my friends know my password, I have no clue as to who took a snapshot of the chat. Parth, however, holds me responsible for the leaked content.
IBT: You were rumoured to be dating "Kaisi Yeh Yaariaan" star Niti Taylor. Is there any truth in it?
Utkarsh: No, I am not dating her. She is cute friend of mine.
IBT: Are you in a relationship?
Utkarsh: (Thinks) Currently, I am dating myself.
