Above & Beyond has returned to India for its fifth tour, and this time around, the London-based EDM trio consisting of Jono Grant, Tony McGuinness and Paavo Siljamäki will perform to promote their new album "We Are All We Need".
Above & Beyond chose India as their destination to celebrate the last episode (450) of their podcast Trance Around The World and to telecast the first episode of Group Therapy almost two years ago. And now, they are back to give their Indian fans another dose of "group therapy".
During this tour, the band is expected to promote the latest music from their new album "We Are All We Need". And they will be supported by fellow "Anjunabeats" artiste Grum.
In an exclusive interview with IBTimes India, Above & Beyond, which is currently on a three-city tour (Pune, Mumbai and Bengaluru on 27-29 November, 2015) as part of VH1 Supersonic Arcade in India, opened up about their new album and their fascination with India that keeps them coming back.
Here are excerpts from the interview:
1) This is your fifth visit to India. How does it feel and what are your expectations this time?
Our fascination with multi-culturalism of India has always been there. India is at the soul of A&B. Our fascination with this country has continued and has been essential to our musical arrangements. Bengaluru is where we did our first Group Therapy radio show, and coincidentally, the 450th "Trance Around the World" tour. People are also the reason why we keep coming back here — the enthusiasm and enthusiastic atmospheres at the shows.
2) Can you tell us one thing you love about each of these cities — Pune, Bengaluru and Mumbai — where you will be performing?
We love the venue in Pune — it's an amphitheater which is one of our favourite situations to play in. Bengaluru, on the other hand, is home to us. This is where we begun our Above & Beyond Group Therapy and came for the 450th Trance Around the World tour. Finally, Mumbai makes us feel like we are in the London of India – very international. It is a melting pot representative of internationalism.
3) On this current tour, Above & Beyond is promoting its new studio album "We Are All We Need". Can you tell us more about how it started and shaped up?
The album "We Are All We Need" happened on the back of "Group Therapy". In fact, the lyrics for "We Are All We Need" encapsulates what we were feeling around that time. The album captures how we are all part of a global family and there is such strength from people who want to do things together.
4) We would also like to know more about the music on this album.
The way we approach it is, we don't set out to really make an album — we write songs and it is a step-by-step process of getting there rather than doing all the tracks at once. Our songs are an outpouring of our lives around that specific period.
Above & Beyond will perform as part of VH1 Supersonic Arcade in Bengaluru 29 November, 2015, at Supernova Arena and Convention Centre.
