Interstellar 2nd Weekend Collection At Box Office: Christopher Nolan's Film Business Crosses $321.9 mn in 12 Days

Ace filmmaker Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar" has made a superb collection at the worldwide box office in the second weekend and its 12-day global business has reached $321.9 million.

"Interstellar" showed a huge drop in its business at the US box office in its second weekend. The movie — starring Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway — fell a relatively narrow 39% to $29.2 million from 3,561 theaters for a domestic total of $97.8 million, according The Hollywood Reporter.

The film was released in China on 12 November. "The movie is doing huge business in China for a 2D title, earning $42 million since it opened last Wednesday, Nolan's biggest launch of all time. It is also Warners' top debut for a 2D title, and its second-best opening weekend of all time behind Pacific Rim 3D," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The movie witnessed around 22% dip at the global box office. "Interstellar" earned another $106 million this weekend from 63 markets for a drop of just 22% from the opening weekend. It has earned a total of $35.9 million in South Korea, followed by $19.3 million in the UK, $16.8 million in Russia, $12.8 million in France and $9.6 million in Germany."

"Interstellar" is one of the big budget Hollywood movies of 2014. The space epic film has been produced by Emma Thomas, Nolan and Lynda Obst, who have shelled out $165 million on its production. Due to the midterm elections, the flick released in a limited number of screens in the US and Canada on 5 November and got good opening everywhere.

The McConaughey and Hathaway starrer topped the business chart on Wednesday with its first day collection reaching $1.35 million at the box office.

"Interstellar" showed a big jump by raking in $3.6 million on Thursday. It earned $4.9 million in two days and these figures also include its collection from preview shows on Tuesday night.

Having wide release on 7 November, "Interstellar" collected $14.25 from the US box office on Friday, taking its three-day total to $19.15 million. The film did well in the following days too. It raked in $47,510,360 from 3,561 theatres in the opening weekend and landed in the second position, while Disney's "Big Hero 6" topped the business chart with $56.2 million collection.

"Interstellar" was released in France and Belgium on 5 November and in 35 other international markets, including Germany, Russia, Australia and Brazil on 6 November. The movie made a brilliant business in 62 markets during the opening weekend. Its collection surpassed the milestone of $200 million in 6 days. Its 12-day global total stands at $321.9 million.
