After launching the Hot 6 Pro, Infinix Mobile has come up with another handset that looks to be a value-for-money budget smartphone Smart 2 in India.
Infinix Smart 2 comes with the latest display aspect ratio, decent processor, storage configuration and good set of camera hardware. I have been using the phone for a couple of days prior to the launch and here's my initial impression.
Build quality, display and design:
The phone is very compact and can be operated single-handedly. It comes with a sturdy polycarbonate body with a smooth finish and offers a good grip.
On the front, it sports a 5.84-inch HD+ FullView screen 18:9 aspect ratio. The readability on the screen is quite good for its price range. My eyes did not feel any stress while web browsing nor during watching videos on YouTube in the outdoors.
Performance:
My Infinix Smart 2 review unit houses with MediaTek MT6739 quad-core processor, 2GB RAM and 16GB storage (expandable up to 128GB storage) and a 3,000mAh battery, which is more than enough to last a whole day under mixed usage.
As far as real-life performance is concerned, it was fast to respond in terms of app launching, switching between multiple apps and even the interface is also user-friendly; there are not many pre-loaded apps compared to other brands. But, I will reserve the final verdict on the device's performance for the full review, which I plan to post in the coming week.
Camera:
The USP of the Smart 2 seems to be the camera hardware. It boasts of 13MP primary rear-side snapper with F2.0 aperture and dual-tone LED flash. On the front, Infinix phone features 8MP with dedicated dual-tone LED flash.
The back camera took some pretty good shots in bright light conditions and also during cloudy late afternoons. As far as the front-camera is concerned, it takes decent selfies and even the shots with Bokeh blur effect too were of satisfactory quality, for its price range.
The company is betting big on the front snapper, as it has ditched the fingerprint sensor and has only face unlock. I have to say that it lives up to the expectations and it's snappy and the false rejection has been very low. The only qualm is that users will have a tough time opening the phone in the night. They will have to go to a place with good lighting to unlock the phone or else open it via pattern or pin security mode.

So far, Infinix Smart 2 has fared well, but it needs to be tested more to find any chinks in its armour. The budget segment is very competitive and if the Infinix phones wants to be number one, it has to fare well against the established player -- Redmi 5A (review) series.
I will be posting the full review of Infinix Smart 2 next week and let's see if it can match up to the Xiaomi phone.
Infinix Smart 2 is now available on Flipkart in two-variants-- 2GB RAM+16GB storage and 3GB RAM+32GB storage--for Rs 5,999 and Rs 6,999, respectively.
