The first trailer of Sony Pictures' upcoming mystery thriller "Inferno" is out, and Tom Hanks is back in action with the film. "Inferno" will be third adaptation of Dan Brown's novel and will explore further adventures of the protagonist, Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks).
Directed by Ron Howard, "Inferno" is a sequel to "The Da Vinci Code" (2006) and "Angels & Demons" (2009) featuring Robert Langdon. The original story starts with Langdon suffering from amnesia and waking up in an Italian hospital where he teams up with Dr Sienna Brooks (portrayed by Felicity Jones in the movie).
The trailer of "Inferno" looks more intense and action-packed than its sequels, and with Academy Award-winner Howard on board, the movie will hopefully do justice to the novel.
The previous movies in the Robert Langdon franchise were successful worldwide, garnering positive response critically and financially. Though it is still a mystery why Sony decided to revive the franchise after seven years since the last movie in the series "Angels & Demons" was released, the move is surely going to prove beneficial for the studio.
According to Collider, "The Da Vinci Code" earned $758 million worldwide, while "Angels & Demons" managed to garner $485 million. It would surely be interesting to see whether "Inferno" will receive the same response from the audience this time.
Besides Tom Hanks and Felicity Jones, other prominent cast members include Ben Foster, Omar Sy and Irrfan Khan. "Inferno" is scheduled to release in the U.S. on Oct. 28, 2016, while it will be released internationally on Oct. 12, 2016.
The synopsis of "Inferno," as stated by Slash Film, reads:
"Academy Award winner Ron Howard returns to direct the latest bestseller in Dan Brown's ("The Da Vinci Code") billion-dollar Robert Langdon series, "Inferno," which finds the famous symbiologist (again played by Tom Hanks) on a trail of clues tied to the great Dante himself. When Langdon wakes up in an Italian hospital with amnesia, he teams up with Sienna Brooks (Felicity Jones), a doctor he hopes will help him recover his memories. Together, they race across Europe and against the clock to foil a deadly global plot."
