In an effort to further the cause of gender equality in India, Yash Raj Films' youth wing – Y Films – has launched the country's first transgender fusion band – '6 Pack Band'.
Comprising six members, the music group released their first single – "Hum Hain Happy" (rendition of William Pharell's "Happy") – online on Wednesday night. Anushka Sharma, who supports the idea, has done voice-over for the video and has some really heartwarming words for the community and how they are often misunderstood.
At the launch event, Sonu Nigam, who also bats for the section, said he had always wanted to do something special for them and finally, after all these years, his wishes have been met. "When I was quite popular in 90's, I always wanted to do something for this community. I loved them on sets. I really liked the innocence in them. They all are like kids. They used to sing my songs on the sets," The Asian Age quoted the singer as saying.
Thrilled about having achieved a major milestone in life, one of the band members, Fida, said, "I want to enjoy the moment by sharing the stage with Sonu Nigam."
In other news, the next song -- "Sab Rab De Bande" -- which is reportedly slated for a 26 January release will feature Nigam leading the band from the front. "When I was a kid, I used to wonder 'what if I would have been born this way?' This was the reason behind me saying yes to this idea," the singer further added.
